Food Logistics recently published a byline from Bill Heaney, Odyssey’s Chief Commercial Officer, on how the unique complexity of logistics in 2025 will require F&B companies to take greater care in choosing logistics partners.
From port disruptions, to climate change, to geopolitical conflicts, 2025 comes with challenges that will reward agile logistics strategies. Managing the moving parts of such a strategy will likely require third-party providers to extend in-house capacity. What should F&B leaders look for in choosing their partners?

Three important qualities to vet:
- Safety and compliance expertise. Third-party partners need to be able to keep up with unfolding regulatory complexity, including showing a demonstrated ability to share data with you securely.
- Multimodal capability. The unpredictability of 2025 makes single-mode logistics providers a risky liability. Multimodal providers give you flexibility to respond to challenges as they emerge and change course if need be.
- Data and tracking. Precise delivery tracking has become par-for-course among consumers — and increasingly, B2B leaders expect the same up-to-date, on-time communication and service. Good 3PLs should be able to meet these expectations.
